I had the pleasure on 15th October, to run a Float Framing Course for Zarina and her son William. The photo shows William with the completed framed picture.
So what exactly are float frames?
They are a type of picture frame that create the illusion of the artwork floating inside the frame without touching it. They are mostly used for stretched canvas paintings or canvas boards as they do not cover the edges of the artwork. There is a gap, called a shadow gap, between the picture and the frame and thus creates the illusion that the picture is floating in the frame.
Zarina bought two wonderful landscape pictures for framing on the course. Do have a look at Zarina’s website

The course covered measuring the picture, adding the shadow gap. Then cutting the tray-frame and assembling with wood glue and a strap clamp. Once the glue had dried we could attach the picture to the tray-frame and add a cord to the back of the picture to hang it up.
